Aims and Goals
Sending a child to camp is a tremendous act of faith by parents. At High Peak Camp, we take
that responsibility very seriously. We work to maintain an environment that encourages safety,
physical health and reinforces a positive relationship with God. Our aim is to provide campers
with opportunities that will stimulate both emotional and physical growth, and encourage them to
stretch themselves through participation in newly learned skills and activities. Our ultimate goal is
to provide an exciting summer experience that motivates our campers to approach the future with
confidence, and a feeling of self worth in the eyes of God.
We create an environment of warmth and closeness at High Peak Camp by limiting camper
enrollment; encouraging the development of personal skills through new experiences; helping
each camper to set personal goals no matter their age or ability, and to give each camper
individual attention and care.
Location
High Peak Camp is located near the Rocky Mountain National Park. Its 440 unspoiled acres
include woodlands, game fields and open areas, and boasts nine trout ponds within its property
boundaries. The area is famous for warm, sunny days and cool, comfortable nights, and
unobstructed view of the Rocky Mountains. It’s location is not only inviting for our campers, but for
our summer staff and summer vacationers.
Daily Schedule
Each day at Camp is filled with exciting activities and programs, and the daily schedule allows
campers time to explore individual interests as well as bond with fellow campers. Wake-up,
meals and lights-out are uniform within the camp, but the activities scheduled are
age-appropriate. A typical day begins with wake-up and breakfast. There is a short cabin clean
up, and then campers attend three morning activities. After lunch and rest hour, there are two
additional activity periods and individual choice. Every evening after dinner, there is a program for
each group as well as a united camp-wide activity. Following evening snack, returning to cabins
is scheduled according to age. The kids go to the pool in Estes Park during their free time, one
day per week.
Meals
High Peak Camp provides campers with tasty, nutritious, homemade foods at every meal. Our
menu includes: weekly cookouts as well as sack lunches for hiking excursions, lunch and dinner
salad and pasta/potato bars, fresh fruit and vegetables at every meal, daily homemade soups,
and a mid-morning re-hydration break.
Signing Your Child Up For Camp
High Peak Camp is owned and operated by The Salvation Army. All Salvation Army camps adjust
tuition based upon a parent’s ability to pay. All registrations for summer camp are handled
through the local Salvation Army unit (Corps) which is located at 438 S. 900 W Salt Lake City, UT and our phone number is 801-363-1091
In order to reserve a spot for your child to attend summer camp, you will need to
complete an application and return it to your local Salvation Army unit (Corps) as soon as
possible. Each Salvation Army unit is allotted a certain number of spots for campers. These
allotments usually fill up fast. Complete applications, with any required deposit, are processed
first. Once your local Salvation Army unit receives this application and deposit, they will contact
you to arrange transportation to High Peak Camp.
Health and Safety at High Peak Camp
The health and safety of your child is very important to us. Our trained staff closely supervise all
activities. Lifeguards are on duty at the creek and ponds. A nurse lives at the camp and operates
a fully equipped first aid station. We also have excellent emergency services and an on-call
physician in the immediate area of the Camp. All children are screened for any medical or dietary
needs as soon as they arrive at High Peak Camp. Their counselors are informed of any special
conditions. Medications are kept locked up and dispensed by the camp nurse. Your child’s
medications should be sent in the original containers. Any dosages that differ from the package
directions must be noted on a form signed by your child’s doctor. You will be notified immediately
if there is any medial emergency involving your child. If the doctor or nurse determines it is better
for your child to recover from an illness or injury at home, you will be asked to come and pick up
your child.
